Basic & Advanced Active Assailant Response (AAR) Training

Course Description

The Basic and Advanced Active Assailant Response (AAR) training program is designed to review the basic tactics previously taught and advanced active assailant/active shooter responses into one complete course, regardless of law enforcement agency. 


The course will begin with a review of the basic responses when responding to active assailants, alone or with one or more partners. The advanced tactics will include: 

  • Solo officer response
  • “Open Air Approach” concept (traversing large open areas in a tactical manner)
  • Deploying from vehicles
  • Entering into buildings from multiple points and linking up with other officers
  • Unconventional threats
  • Tactical emergency casualty care (focusing on tourniquet use and proficiency)
  • Rescue task force concept

Leadership and accountability of actions will be stressed throughout this training, along with the establishment of an internal command post. 


Students will be given instruction and practice response techniques, ensuring proficiency before testing the response techniques in force on target and force on force scenario role playing.
